Weeping Angels voted favourite Doctor Who monster

The Weeping Angels have been voted the favourite Doctor Who monster ever in a poll over 10,000 fans conducted by the Radio Times.

The stone statues overwhelmingly topped the poll with 49.4% of the vote, beating the iconic Daleks (17%), Silence (11.84%), Master (8.66%), Vashta Nerada (6.81%), Cybermen (2.53%), Davros (2.2%), Zygons (0.63%), Ice Warriors (0.54%) and Sontarans (0.33%).

Steven Moffat's creation first appeared in 2007's highly acclaimed Blink and returned to face Matt Smith's Doctor in The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone two-parter in 2010. The Angels also made a brief appearance in 2011's The God Complex .

The Weeping Angels will appear in episode five of this year's series, which sees the departure of Amy and Rory.
