After almost four years of updating this website, I regret to say that this will be the final post.<br />
<br />
I've found it hard to update the website as regularly over the last few months and now seemed an appropriate time to bring it to a close. The blog only started out as an experiment and here I am exactly four years later having produced 3165 posts with over 218,000 page views.<br />
<br />
However, I'm thinking of keeping the <a href="https://twitter.com/DoctorWhoVortex">Twitter account</a> open for the foreseeable future and I'm hoping to keep over 500 followers updated with the latest Doctor Who news. <br />
<br />
I would like to thank everyone who has ever read, commented and supported this website over the last few years.<br />
<br />
Special thanks go to <b>Alwyn Ash</b> and <b>Nebula One</b>, <b>Rhys</b> and <b>patar</b>. These people have consistently supported me over the last four years and the site would not have been possible without them.<br />
<br />
Additional thanks go to <b>Dan</b> for producing the banners; the <b>TARDIS Newsroom</b> (an excellent website!), <b>mrdrwhoforever</b> and <b>Void23</b>.<br />
<br />
This is set to be a huge year for Doctor Who and I will of course keep watching and supporting the greatest TV show of all time.<br />
<br />
All the best,<br />
<br />
John (Vortex)<br />

Veteran actor Sir Ian McKellen has a voice over role in this year's Doctor Who Christmas Special.<br />
<br />
McKellen will voice the monstrous Snowmen in Steven Moffat's festive episode which will be broadcast on BBC One on Christmas Day.<br />
<br />
The actor is known for his roles in blockbusters including Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, X-Men and The Da Vinci Code.<br />
<br />
The news was revealed by Radio Times reviewer Patrick Mulkern who admitted that he initially thought that the Snowmen were voiced by Sir Partick Stewart.<br />
<br />
In his preview of The Snowmen, Mulkern also praises Jenna-Louise Coleman for her portrayal of Clara. The reviewer says: "We have a proper introduction to Matt Smith’s new co-star Jenna-Louise
Coleman, who is dazzling and perky as Clara, and not as cocky as her
looky-likey Oswin in Asylum of the Daleks."<br />

Exactly 49 years ago today, the world's greatest TV programme, Doctor Who, was born...<br />
<br />
At 5.15pm on 23rd November 1963, the first episode of the Doctor Who story <i>An Unearthly Child </i>went
out on BBC One. It saw school teachers Ian Chesteron (William Russell)
and Barbra Wright (Jacqueline Hill) discovering the TARDIS and a man
named the Doctor (Willam Hartnell) along his granddaughter Susan (Carol
Ann Ford) in a junk yard in London.<br />
<br />
Over the last 49 years, has been a huge success with 11 actors in the
lead role, along with numerous companions, making up 229 stories with
789 episodes and a total of 33 series.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">... now in 2012</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
2013 looks set to be a huge year as the programme celebrates half a century since the transmission of <i>An Unearthly Child</i>. There will be the remaining eight episodes of series seven in the Spring featuring Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman. Although there are very few details about the 50th celebrations, Steven Moffat promises that it will be "huge" and "the best year to be a Doctor Who fan." The BBC recently confirmed that Mark Gatiss is scripting a 90-minute drama for BBC Two titled <i>An Adventure In Space And Time</i> which will
explore the people who brought the iconic series to BBC One in 1963.<br />
<br />
Doctor Who will return on Christmas Day with Steven Moffat's <i>The Snowmen</i> featuring Richard E. Grant and Tom Ward.<br />

Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer, said,
‘The Doctor at Christmas is one of my favourite things - but this year it's
different. He's lost Amy and Rory to the Weeping Angels, and he's
not in a good place: in fact, he's Scrooge. He's withdrawn from the world
and no longer cares what happens to it. So when all of humanity hangs in
the balance, can anyone persuade a tired and heartbroken Doctor that it's time
to return to the good fight? Enter
Jenna-Louise Coleman…’<br />
<br />
Matt Smith, who plays the Doctor, commented, ‘For this
year’s Christmas Special we have the wonderfully villainous Richard E Grant as
Doctor Simeon. As well as lizards, Victorian assassins and deranged
warriors from the future all return to
convince the Doctor that he should board the TARDIS again and save the
world. Add to that Jenna-Louise Coleman and so begins the Christmas
Special, 2012. I hope everyone enjoys it!’<br />
<br />
Doctor Who: The Snowmen will be broadcast on BBC One on Christmas Day.<br />

Doctor Elehri Mussurana has spent a lifetime on her work.
She's guarded her pet project close to her chest, letting only one
person share her secret - her husband and lab partner Ernst Wharner. As
their experiment reaches its final, glorious fruition, they watch in awe
as sparks fly in a sealed chamber and specks of sapphire light begin to
join together into a shining haze. A wormhole in time and space is
being created...But then something unexpected appears inside the
swirling vortex: a tall blue box with the words 'POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX'
