Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures - TV Choice Awards 2012

Doctor Who and its spin-offs have been recognised in the longlist for the 2012 TV Choice Awards.

Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures are both up for the Best Family Award, alongside Waterloo Road, Merlin, Casualty, Holby City, Glee, Doc Martin, and Wild at Heart.

Torchwood: Miracle Day has been nominated in the Best Drama Series category, and is up against a number of popular programmes including Steven Moffat's Sherlock.

Among the Best Actor nominees is Matt Smith who is competing with Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Bradley Walsh, Steve Pemberton, Toby Jones, John Simm and Marc Warren amongst others.

In the Best Actress category, Karen Gillan is up against several Doctor Who-related nominees including Freema Agyeman, Jessica Hynes, Suranne Jones, Lesley Sharp and Lenora Critchlow.


Voting on the longlist is open until 15th June 2012. The shortlisted nominees will be revealed on 3rd July and voting will re-open.

Jo Brand will host the awards ceremony which will take place on 10th September at London's Dorchester Hotel.
