David Tennant cast in Manchester United drama

Former Doctor Who actor David Tennant is set to lead the cast of a new BBC Two drama which tells to story of the 1958 Munich plane crash which killed eight Manchester United players.

Tennant will take on the main role of coach Jimmy Murphy, along with Skins actor Jack O'Connell, who plays Bobby Charlton and Sam Claflin as player Duncan Edwards.

The drama is written by Chris Chibnall, who has previously worked on Doctor Who and Torchwood.

Simon Heath, Executive Producer, said: “Chris Chibnall has written an authentic and moving version of this heartbreaking story, which with the help of a great cast, we hope will be a fitting tribute to those who survived and those who lost their lives at Munich.”

Filming is expected to begin later this month.
