Billy Connolly nearly cast as The Doctor
Scottish Comedian Billy Connolly has revealed that he was nearly cast as The Doctor in the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie.
Connolly said: "It was brought up in a meeting, apparently, but nobody told me until after they decided against it. If I had done it, he would have been angrier, a much angrier Doctor Who. I would have loved it. I'd have taken it."
Sylvester McCoy, who made his last appearance as the Doctor in the movie, recently said that Connolly would be ideal cohice for the part in the future.
The role of the Eighth Doctor went to Paul McGann.
