Doctor Who to film in USA

BBC America have announced that the filming on the first two episodes of Doctor Who Series 6 will take place in America.

The channel tweeted the following: "Doctor Who to film in the U.S. for the first time. First 2 episodes to be set in the U.S. next season."

The news comes after "DOCTOR WHO X1.2 USA Location Shoot" was posted on the CV of actor David Mason.

The episodes will be set during the late '60s, in the Utah desert. Alex Kingston will return as River Song in the opening two-part adventure.

Executive producer and Head Writer Steven Moffat said: "The Doctor has visited every weird and wonderful planet you can imagine, so he was bound get round to America eventually.

"And of course every Doctor Who fan will be jumping up and down and saying he's been in America before. But not for real, not on location - and not with a story like this one."

The 7-part sixth series, starring Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill, is expected to air in Spring 2011 on BBC One.
