Doctor Who: Asylum of the Daleks - Official Ratings

BARB have published the consolidated viewing figures for Doctor Who: Asylum of the Daleks.

Episode 1 was watched by a total of 8.33 million viewers on BBC One, with a 34.4% share of the total TV audience. It was BBC One's third most-watched broadcast of the week, behind two episodes of EastEnders.

The figure is almost 2 million higher than the initial overnight rating of 6.4 million.

The consolidated figure includes viewers who recorded the episode and watched within 7 days of transmission, but not those who viewed the programme on the BBC iPlayer or watched a repeat showing.

Asylum of the Daleks achieved an "excellent" Appreciation Index of 89 - the highest of the day.

Over in the US, episode one pulled in an audience of 1.5 million on BBC America - the highest figure ever for the cable channel.

The Canadian premier of Doctor Who Series 7 was the second most-watched broadcast ever on Space with 620,000 viewers.

Following its transmission in the UK, Asylum of the Daleks was immediately made available online legally in Australia via the ABC iView service. It was a huge success, gaining 75,900 views within one day - a daily viewer record.

On Saturday 8th September, the episode received its Australian TV premier on ABC1 with 549,000 viewers tuning in. It was the top rating drama of the day and the eighth most-watched overall. However this is only an overnight figure, which does not take regional, rural and time-shifted viewers into account.
