Freema Agyeman cast in Sex and the City pequel

Former Doctor Who star Freema Agyeman has joined the cast of the prequel to Sex and the City, according to Deadline.

The actress will play Larissa, Carrie's mentor, "a hip, cutting-edge editor/party girl who works at Interview magazine".

The pilot, produced by The CW, is based on Candace Bushnell's novel, and tells the story of Carrie Bradshaw's (AnnaSophia Robb) "coming of age in the 1980s when she asks her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan".

Agyeman starred in Doctor Who and Torchwood as Martha Jones between 2007 and 2010. Her other work includes BBC One's Little Dorrit and she currently has a regular role as Alesha Phillips in ITV1's Law & Order: UK.
