Elisabeth Sladen tops Twitter trends of 2011

Elisabeth Sladen was one of the most talked about topics on Twitter in 2011, the website has revealed.

The actress played Sarah Jane in Doctor Who since 1973 and landed her own CBBC spin-off series based around the character in 2007.

She passed away in April this year following a battle with cancer and fans took to social networking websites to pay their respects to the much-loved actress.

The star was included in the top ten list of actresses mentioned on Twitter this year.

Jonathan Ross, Edgar Wright, Neil Gaiman, John Barrowman and Stephen Fry all used their Twitter accounts to pay tribute to Elisabeth Sladen.
