Doctor Who: The Doctor's Wife - Official Ratings

BARB have published the official consolidated viewing figure for "The Doctor's Wife", the fourth episode in the latest series of Doctor Who.

The episode was watched by a total of 7.97 million viewers on BBC One, with a 34.7% share of the total TV audience.

The figure is once again much higher than the initial overnight rating of 5.9 million viewers.

The consolidated viewing figure includes viewers who recorded the episode and watched it within 7 days.

The official figure does not include the BBC iPlayer, where around 1 million people accessed the story within the first week of transmission.

Episode 4 was BBC One's 8th most-watched programme of the week, and the 14th most-watched overall.

Doctor Who was the highest-rated drama of the week, only beaten by Britain's Got Talent, The Eurovision Song Contest, The Apprentice and the Soaps.

Episode 4 achieved an Appreciation Index of 87, putting it into the "excellent" category. An Appreciation Index is found by surveying a panel of around 5000 viewers to see what they thought of a particular programme. Is is a score out of 100, with the average BBC TV programme getting 80. A score of 85 or above is considered as "excellent".

In Australia, The Doctor's Wife was the fifth most-watched programme of the day with 785,000 viewers in the five capital cities.
