According to The Doctor Who News Page, Doctor Who: The Impossible Astronaut achieved an Appreciation Index of 88, one of the highest of the entire Easter weekend.
An Appreciation Index is found by surveying a panel of around 5000 viewers to see what they thought of a particular programme.
Is is a score out of 100, with the average BBC TV programme getting 80. A score of 85 or above is considered as "excellent".
The score is the highest for a Doctor Who series opener since 2007's "Smith and Jones" which also achieved 88. Only two episodes of series 5 managed 88 or above.
Doctor Who was one of the most successful of the weekend, with no programme on Easter Sunday managing to get past the 6 million mark.
