Official viewing figures published by BARB show that Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol was watched by a colossal 12.11 million viewers on BBC One/HD on Christmas Day.
The figure makes Doctor Who the third most-watched programme of the day, and the fourth most-watched of the week behind EastEnders (12.61 million), Coronation Street (12.52 million) and Come Fly With Me (12.47 million).
Only eight other Doctor Who episodes, including 'The Eleventh Hour', have achieved fourth place or higher in the weekly top ten.
'A Christmas Carol' is the fourth highest rating Doctor Who episode since the programme returned in 2005, behind 'Voyage of the Damned', 'The Next Doctor' and 'The End of Time, Part Two'.
750,000 people requested the episode on the BBC iPlayer in the week following transmission.
