Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol - Overnight Ratings

Unofficial overnight viewing figures indicate that Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol was watched by 10.3 million people on Christmas Day.

9.0 million watched on BBC One while 1.4 million tuned into BBC One HD.

This figure makes Doctor Who the second most-watched programme of Christmas Day, behind EastEnders, with 11.4 million.

Doctor Who had 39.8% of the audience. ITV1's Emmerdale, which was shown against Doctor Who at 6.00pm, had an audience of 7.2 million.

207,000 watched Doctor Who Confidential on BBC Three at 7.00pm.

Overnights for last year's Christmas Day episode "The End of Time, Part One" were 10.4 million, giving Doctor Who third place.

The BBC once again dominated the Christmas TV ratings battle, taking eight of the top ten places.

Final official figures for Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol are likely to rise by about 2 million when they are published by BARB in around 8 days.
