Doctor Who: The Impossible Astronaut - Transmission Details

The Radio Times website has confirmed the air date and time for the first episode of Doctor Who's sixth series.

"The Impossible Astronaut" will be broadcast at 6.00pm on Saturday 23rd April 2011 on BBC One and BBC One HD.

The episode is the first of a two-part story which is set in America and was partly shot on location in the Utah desert.

It stars Matt Smith as The Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy, Arthur Darvill as Rory, Alex Kingston as River Song alongside guest star Mark Sheppard.

When will they learn? Doctor Who has always done better in the ratings when it airs later in the evening? Is the BBC still stuck in the 1970s when children were all supposed to be in bed by 7? They could put this show on at 8 and do terrific ratings. Oh well.

I assume, though, that the rumor about Part 2 airing the next evening is debunked?

The BBC are just using Doctor Who to try and get their ratings up for that siily dance show.

Episode 2 will air the week after.
