The Tenth Doctor - David Tennant (2005 - 2010)
It's a historic day for Doctor Who; the day that The Tenth Doctor regenerates! It's been a mad, funny, sad, happy and fantastic four and a half years with David Tennant as the Doctor but tonight it all ends...
Back in 2005, Christopher Eccleston was the Ninth Doctor in the first series of Doctor Who since it was axed in 1989. David Tennant took over the TARDIS as the Tenth Doctor 18th June 2005. His first episode was in the 2005 Christmas Special in which the newly-regenerated Doctor fought the Sycorax on top of a Spaceship on Christmas Day! From this point, the adventure began...
2006 saw the second series of new Doctor Who, with David Tennant, Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, and Noel Clarke as Mickey Smith. This was the series that really kicked-off David Tennant's era of Doctor Who. From meeting Queen Victoria, Sarah Jane Smith, K9 Cybermen, Ood, snogging Madame De Pompadour and witnessing the Daleks vs Cybermen battle of Canary Wharf arguably one of the greatest moments of the Tenth Doctor's era was saying goodbye to his friend Rose Tyler in the emotional and heartbreaking Bad Wolf Bay Scene in the series 2 finale, Doomsday. The 2006 Christmas special saw the Doctor accompanied by Donna Noble, the feisty, loud and brilliant Donna Noble played by comedian and actress Catherine Tate.
March 2007 was the return of Doctor Who in the third series of the show. The first episode, Smith and Jones the Doctor met Medical Student Martha Jones played by the phenomenal Freema Agyeman while the Hospital which he was investigating and she was working in was transported to the Moon, invaded by Judoon and a Plasmavore in the shape of a little old lady called Florance! Martha Jones accepted the Doctor's offer of just one trip in the TARDIS but this led to Martha becoming a full-time companion to the Doctor. A great friendship between the Doctor and Martha formed. One of David Tennant's most stunning performances ever was in The Family of Blood when he played John Smith, a human who dreamt of travelling in Time and Space.
Fighting Judoon, a Plasmavore, Carrionites, Macra, Daleks, Lazarus, The Family of Blood, Scarecrows, Weeping Angels, Toclafane and the Doctor's Nemesis the Master, Martha Jones eventually left the Doctor after saving the world from the clutches of the Master in Last of the Time Lords but this wasn't the end for the Doctor and Martha...
The 2007 Christmas Special, Voyage of the Damned saw the Doctor alongside one-off companion Astrid Peth, pop Princess Kylie Minogue while trying to stop Robot Angels and Alien Saboteurs on the Starship Titanic. The Doctor also finally got to say his catchphrase: Allons-y Alonso!
2008 was the Tenth Doctor's (David Tennant's) final series as the Doctor. This series also saw the return of Donna Noble (Catherine Tate). Together the stopped the villainous Miss Foster, travelling to Pompeii, Planet of the Ood, Messaline, 1926 and meeting Agatha Christie, the biggest Libary in the Universe and fighting Pyrovilles, Ood, Sontarans, Hath, a Vespiform, Vashta Nerada, a Time Beetle, Davros and the Daleks! The series finale The Stolen Earth/Journeys End, saw the return of a whole host of friends and faces from the Tenth Doctor's past. Rose Tyler (Billie Piper), Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen), Mickey Smith (Noel Clarke), Jackie Tyler (Camille Coduri) and Harriet Jones (Penelope Wilton) to fight Daleks and Davros to save the Universe! The Doctor's Companions, with the help of the TARDIS flew the Earth back home in is one of the best scenes in Doctor Who history. At the End of Journey's End the Doctor was once again alone...
In October 2008, David Tennant announced at the NTA's that he would be leaving Doctor Who after 4 specials which would see Doctor Who through 2009. The Nation was in mourning and speculation about who wold replace him began.
The 2008 Christmas Special, The Next Doctor with David Morrisey as the Doctor's Companion Jackson Lake (who was a human with some of the Doctor's memories) initially called the Doctor fought the Cybermen in Victorian London to try and prevent the rise of the Cyberking.

April 2009 saw the first-ever Doctor Who Easter Special transmitted on BBC One. Written by Russell T Davies and Gareth Roberts, this story saw the Doctor, with is one-off assistant Lady Christina De Souza, get on a London red double decker bus and transported across space to the Planet San Helios. This story was described as a 'romp' and the last chance for the Tenth Doctor to have a laugh but he was also given the deadly prophecy "HE WILL KNOCK FOUR TIMES".
In May 2009 David Tennant finished filming on the Doctor Who Specials and Scottish actress Karen Gillan who was a soothsayer in the Fires of Pompeii was announced as the Eleventh Doctor's Companion for Series Five.
In October, Tennant guest-starred as the Doctor in The Sarah Jane Adventures in the story The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith to team up with the SJA gang to fight the Trickster.

It's now a week since the transmission of The End of Time, Part One which saw the Master turn into everyone on Earth and the return of the Time Lords. With just hours to go until the Tenth Doctor's final episode, it's the end of an era tonight but the start of a new one with Matt Smith as the Doctor but to me David Tennant will always be the Doctor and he will not be forgotten...
Tonight's episode also marks the end for two people who restored Doctor Who to it's rightful place as the best show in the world: Executive Produce and Head Writer Russell T Davies and Executive Producer Julie Gardner.
So tune into BBC One, 6.40pm to see what promises to be one of the best Doctor Who episodes in history!
