Doctor Who: History of the Universe in 100 Objects

Steve Tribe and James Goss have written the hardcover Doctor Who: History of the Universe in 100 Objects which has been published today by BBC Books.

Every object tells a story. From ancient urns and medieval flasks to sonic screwdrivers and glass Daleks, these 100 objects tell the story of the entire universe, and the most important man in it: the Doctor.

Each item has a unique tale of its own, whether it's a fob watch at the onset of the Great War or a carrot growing on the first human colony on Mars. Taken together, they tell of empires rising and falling, wars won and lost, and planets destroyed and reborn.

Within these pages lie hidden histories of Time Lords and Daleks, the legend of the Loch Ness Monster, the plot to steal the Mona Lisa and the story of Shakespeare's lost play. You'll find illustrated guides to invisible creatures, the secret origins of the internet, and how to speak Mechonoid.

A History of the Universe in 100 Objects is an indispensible guide to the most important items that have ever existed, or that are yet to exist.

Doctor Who Action Figures - Pyramids of Mars set

Character Options have produced an action figure set dedicated to the 1975 Doctor Who story The Pyramids of Mars. The set consists of Sutekh and two Mars Guardian Robot Mummies.

“Your evil is my good. I am Sutekh the Destroyer. Where I tread, I leave nothing but dust and darkness I find that good!”

In this fourth Doctor adventure, the TARDIS materialises on Earth in the year 1911 inside an old priory owned by Egyptologist Marcus Scarman. Scarman has been possessed by Sutekh, last survivor of the god-like Osirans, who is held prisoner under a pyramid in Egypt by a signal transmitted from one on Mars. Sutekh desires his freedom and instructs Scarman to construct servicer robots - which look like Egyptian mummies - to build a missile with which to destroy the Martian pyramid. The Doctor foils this plan by blowing up the missile.

He then falls under Sutekh’s control himself and is made to transport Scarman to Mars in the TARDIS. Scarman cuts off the signal but the Doctor, now freed of Sutekh’s influence, realises that there will be a short delay before it stops, rushes back and uses the time control from the TARDIS to move the end of Sutekh’s space-time tunnel into the far future. Sutekh, travelling down the tunnel, is unable to reach the end in his lifetime, and dies.

Contents:

1 x Sutekh with jackal head action figure.
2 x Mars Guardian Robot Mummy action figures.

The figures are expected to be released on 15th October 2012 at the price of £19.99.
